30 March 2007: UK signs UN Convention on disability rights
The UK will tomorrow be one of the first countries to sign the United Nations Convention on Disability Rights. Anne McGuire, Minister for Disabled People, will sign the Convention on behalf of the UK at a ceremony held at the UN in New York. The Convention marks a significant step forward in ensuring disabled people across the world have the same human rights as every one else. It covers aspects such as disabled peoples rights to education, employment and participation in political and public life.
