The British Association for Supported Employment is the national trade association representing hundreds of agencies involved in securing employment for people with disabilities. The association aims to raise awareness of supported employment, represent the sector on a collective basis, inform members, and encourage best practice. BASE facilitates regional member networks and supports providers and employers by being a hub of information and good practice.

Consultation on National Occupational Standards
The consultation on the newly developed National Occupational Standards for supported employment is now open until 2 March. The standards specify the skills and knowledge needed by people working within the supported employment sector and they will form a platform for workforce qualifications. 10 units have been prepared and another 6 related units from other standards are included in the consultation. Individual feedback is being sought through the Excellence Gateway.
Personal Budgets conference: 23 March
Personal budgets are now being used widely as a way to provide more personalised services to disabled people. This conference, jointly organised by BASE and BILD, examines how supported employment can be funded through the use of personal budgets. Looking at evidence-based practice and the experience of several pilot projects, the day will feature a range of presentations and discussion workshops that will describe the opportunities and challenges for commissioners, disabled people and supported employment providers.
