ABP toolkit helps assessment of functional skills in Maths and English

People with sight loss are often disadvantaged when completing computer-based diagnostic assessments to identify their level of competency in English and maths. Action for Blind People has designed the Skills In-Sight toolkit to make the assessment a more independent process, taking into consideration the individual’s sight condition and preferred method of working, such as Braille or large-print.

The Skills In-Sight toolkit will cover both maths and English from Entry Level 1 to Level 2. The assessment process will involve:

SEN&D Green Paper pathfinder sites announced

The Government has announced that 20 pathfinders, covering 31 local authorities and their Primary Care Trust (PCT) partners, will test out the main proposals in the SEN and disabilities Green Paper.

The Outcomes Star™ measures progress for service users receiving support in order to maximise independence or achieve other goals. There are different versions of the Star for different sectors (e.g. homelessness, substance misuse, mental health and young people). However all versions consists of a number of scales and a Star chart (pictured below) onto which the service user’s score on each scale is plotted. The attitudes and behaviour expected at each of the points on each scale are clearly defined in detailed scale descriptions and summary ladders giving the scores some objectivity.
