Learning disability employment policy in England was led by the Valuing Employment Now (VEN) Team until it was disbanded in April 2011. Employment policy is now led by the Valuing People Now team. Only 6.4% of people with a significant disability are in paid employment in England (2010). Valuing Employment Now was published in June 2009 and is the main cross-Government policy document for England.

DH announces new grants programme for voluntary sector

The Department of Health’s National Prospectus Grants Programme 2013-15 is now open to applications. Applicants are invited to submit proposals to improve outcomes for children, young people and families with a particular emphasis on early intervention and supporting the most disadvantaged.

The funding will provide up to £30 million for each year in 2013-14 and 2014-15 and projects will contribute to policy thinking and delivery on the ground to:
* promote excellence in early education and childcare, so enabling all children to achieve success in their early years and later education;

Guidance on charges for social care

The Department of Health has published a circular that explains the revised charging arrangements for adult social care services, which should be applied from 29 October 2012. It covers the updated editions of the Charging for Residential Accommodation Guide (CRAG) and the Fairer Charging Policies for Home Care and other non-residential Social Services guidance:

Innovation, Excellence and Strategic Development Funds

The Department of Health's Innovation, Excellence and Strategic Development Funds 2013-14 are open for applications until 21 September 2012.

Applicants are invited to submit proposals to develop new, innovative approaches to health and care, actively share excellent practice or improve integrated care and efficiency.

This forms a suite of training materials designed for use in training sessions for frontline workers - primarily health and social care workers - supporting people with a learning disability. Department of Health response to the public's comments on The Coalition: Our Programme for Government on social care and disability

Following the May 2010 general election and the formation of the coalition Government, a five year programme for partnership government entitled The Coalition: our programme for government (PFG) was released by Prime Minister David Cameron and Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg. The online version of the document invited members of the public to comment on the contents of the programme and over 9,500 people responded.
