MTIB is a registered charity, which started as a sheltered workshop for 14 blind miners in 1923, but now supports over 250 people with all kinds of disabilities and health conditions all over South and Mid Wales. At the MTIB manufacturing unit, which employs 45 disabled people, we produce a wide range of quality products such as furniture frames, recliner chair frames, bespoken wooden designs along with manufacturing mops for cleaning, buttons used for upholstery and cardboard and fibreboard. We have some well known high street retailers as customers and provide a very high quality product and service along with very competitive prices.
Not only do MTIB directly employ people with disabilities at our manufacturing unit but we also operate the MTIB WORKSTEP scheme which supports over 250 people in a range of supported work opportunities that meet the differing needs of people with disabilities and reflect the demand from the local labour market. The aim of Workstep is to provide support in jobs for people with disabilities who have more complex barriers to finding and keeping work but who, with the right support, are able to make a valuable contribution in their job and where appropriate develop and progress to mainstream employment.
MTIB and Workstep offer a range of support to both employers and individuals including disability awareness training, contact support, aids and adaptations to the work place, job coaching and even financial support to the employer to assist in overcoming barriers that the disability creates. Apart from the manufacturing unit and MTIB WORKSTEP scheme,
