Mental health employment: a regional model for national development using IPS (Individual Placement and Support)

This event is organised by Enable and showcases the work of The Improve Project in the West Midlands.

The Improve Project was developed by Enable (Shropshire Council), in partnership with the Centre for Mental Health, to improve employment outcomes using the innovatory IPS model to develop secondary mental health services.

The Improve Project has accelerated IPS development in 6 sites across the West Midlands region and has had a real and demonstrable impact. Enable has worked with local teams providing support and mentoring in the theory and practice of IPS. Our event will highlight how local improvements were made quickly in the performance and quality of the mental health employment services involved in the project.

IPS is recognised internationally as the most successful approach to helping people with severe mental health problems into work. Moving people quickly into paid employment and at the same time integrating employment support within clinical teams, is at the heart of IPS.

Speaking at our event is Professor Bob Grove, a leading figure in the supported employment field. He recently retired as the Chief Executive of the Centre for Mental Health and is now a Senior Professional Advisor. Bob holds a Professorship of Mental Health at the University of Nottingham and has written widely on disability and employment issues.

This project was funded by the West Midlands Strategic Health Authority.
