Start in Salford

Start in Salford is a creative arts and wellbeing charity for local people of all ages. We opened our doors in 1993, and became a registered charity in 1999. Supported by, and working in partnership with local and national organisations we have grown to meet the needs of the community.

There are many reasons why creative activities are such important tools for working to improve mental health and wellbeing, but the point is they bring amazing results. For more than 18 years, Start in Salford has been helping people to be creative, talk about their lives and share their experiences. We have seen hundreds of people grow in confidence and self esteem. Our members take pride in what they achieve and most importantly, they learn to balance their responsibilities and worries so they can cope today and plan for tomorrow.

Our range of creative arts programmes have been developed to help people who are or who may be at risk of experiencing mental health difficulties. We make sure people are getting the help and support they need, as well as enjoying something new.

Start Training is a recovery programme for people with severe or enduring mental health difficulties.
Start Over Fifty helps older people stay active and involved in the local community.
Start Time Out encourages and supports people of all ages when life is getting them down.
Start Youth Arts engages excluded young people in positive activities to help them get back on track.
In addition to our range of specialised programmes,
Start Creative offers a variety of classes, events, exhibitions and craft fairs throughout the year – it’s for the whole community and is open to all.
