There are various ways that Adults with Learning Disabilities can learn about the world of work. We have a variety of community settings in Somerset that offer opportunities for individuals to attend work preparation or work training. These are tailored to meet their individual needs and aspirations.

A number of people will move from supported placements into paid work with local employers or voluntary work with charities. Where appropriate, individuals are offered support during the initial stages of working in mainstream or voluntary employment.

Somerset Work Preparation Service (SWPS) offers real work opportunities for people in Somerset who are learning disabled. We work together with employers and other organisations to support people to get work and employment.

SWPS has a network of services across Somerset with bases in Mendip, South Somerset, Taunton and Somerset Coast.
