City of Bradford MDC
Industrial Services Group (ISG) is a Social Enterprise wholly owned by Bradford Council. ISG is a commercial business operation providing a range of high quality products and services for a large number of public and private sector customers. ISG’s mission statement is:
'Improve employment opportunities for people with disabilities and, through training and education within a commercial environment, enable them to maximise their working potential'.
Commercial activities are merely a vehicle for ISG to fulfil its core purpose. The activities of ISG are the method chosen to support the Council’s wider aims to transforming the lives of disabled citizens in the Bradford District.
ISG supports 45 Work Choice participants on behalf of the Department for Work and Pensions in the four business operations. The businesses compete for work with private sector competitors in their own commercial environments, and are expected to remain commercially sustainable. This differentiates ISG from establishments that provide therapeutic work and day-care for people with disabilities.
The Work Choice activity is underpinned by commercial activity across four different businesses in the Bradford district:
The Manufacturing department manufactures PVC-u windows, composite doors, curtain walling systems, and half-hour fire check doors, to a high standard fully compliant with the West Yorkshire Police 'Secured by Design' standard. Its main customers include Housing Associations, Local authorities, and construction companies across the Yorkshire region.
Festival Lights carries out the design, manufacture and installation of lighting features for Christmas and other religious festivals and supplies to over 50 Local Authorities across the Midlands and North of England.
The Group Support Functions completes mail-sort and repacking activities for a variety of local customers including the Local Authority itself.
